Players A to Z, Willie Bloomquist

Willie Bloomquist plays the outfield for the Kansas City Royals. Since can neither get on base nor hit for power, he’s on the right team. Despite a seven year career with the Seattle Mariners in which Willie proved he could not hit, the Royals gave him a nearly full-time job in 2009, not recognizing that his .377 OBP in 2008 (nearly 100 points higher than his slugging percentage) was a fluke. Bloomquist played 125 games in 2009, the most of his career despite a .265/.308/.365 slash line. That game total represented 19% of his career total. He’s a prime example of what’s wrong in Kansas City.
