Waiting on Livan

The Detroit Tigers found a way to get to Livan Hernandez, wait him out. Hernandez was getting away with a low strikeout rate by also keeping his walks low. Detroit waited him out and drew six walks against him. I wonder if Livan was wild, or if the Tigers just weren’t willing to chase low pitches that they would ground to an infielder. Hernandez ended up allowing eight runs in 6 2/3 innings, raising his ERA to 2.94.

Meanwhile, Justin Verlander blew away the Nationals, striking out 11 in eight innings of work. He did allow two home runs, but both were solo shots as he walked none and allowed just seven hits. The strikeouts were king tonight as the Tigers win 8-3.
