Garza in the Ninth

Carl Crawford homers in the bottom of the eighth to give the Rays and Matt Garza a 5-0 lead. Matt takes the mound needing three outs for a no hitter. He’s walked one and struck out five, but the walk was erased on a double play. He’ll face Don Kelly, Gerald Laird, and Danny Worth, none very good hitters.

Update: Kelly gets ahead in the count 3-1. On a full count, Don grounds to second for the first out.

Update: Laird swings at two pitches out of the strike zone to fall behind 0-2, although he seemed to check his swing on strike two. He fouls a pitch off before getting caught looking on a beautiful breaking pitch on the outside corner.

Update: Ramon Santiago pinch hits. He flies out to righfield on a 1-1 pitch, and Matt Garza gets the first no-hitter in Rays history, retiring the last 22 batters in a row.
