Jeter Asking Reduced

The six-year, $150 million contract floated this morning is down to four years, $96 million as Derek Jeter‘s asking price.

I would not be surprised to see the final deal at three years, $19 million per year with an option for the fourth year. That would give Derek a slight raise over the average value of his previous contract. We’ll see if the Yankees are really willing to bid against themselves.

Update: Emma Span (no relation to Denard) nails the negotiations.

Gotta love a team-oriented player that only wants a raise at the age of 37 after an OPS+ of 90 the previous season. That’s a hometown discount!

Nothing would make me happier as a lifelong Yankee fan than if the front office let Jeter go. The team trumps the individual, and winning is all that matters.
