The Reds buy out Joey Votto’s three arbitration years for $38 million. That’s a nice deal for both sides, as Votto would likely have topped the record for arbitration for a three-year player had he gone that route. I suspect the Reds will save money over what Joey might have won every year, and Votto gets to keep his free agent window open. Since he’ll be locked up through his age 29 season, Cincinnati will capture the first baseman’s peak.
