The Yankees reached a deal with outfielder Andruw Jones:
The long-rumored deal between free agent outfielder Andruw Jones and the Yankees is close to becoming official, as SI.com reports the two sides have agreed to a one-year, $2 million deal.
SI.com also reports Jones can earn an additional $1.2 million in performance bonuses.
Jones is no longer a great player, but he doesn’t hurt the team defensively and he got his stroke back against lefties in 2010. He’s well worth the $2 million risk.
This also makes Nick Swisher available to trade if needed for a starting pitcher at the trading deadline, or before, since he will be a FA after 2011.
