U2 Can Move a Home Game

For the second year in a row, a stadium scheduling conflict is forcing a team to play home games on the road.

A three-game series between the Florida Marlins and Seattle Mariners from June 24-26 has been moved from Miami to Seattle because of a U2 concert.

The upside is that the Marlins will likely get a bigger gate, and Seattle fans get to see the pitchers bat!

Update: Seattle to Miami has to be the largest distance between major league cities, right? It’s 3299 miles on a straight line. San Diego to Boston is 2746 miles, and San Francisco to Boston is 2787 miles. So it seems not only are the Marlins playing on the road, they are playing as far away as possible on the road.

Are you sure you got that right?
Seattle to Miami is 2730 miles on a great circle (which is what you must mean by a ‘straight line’), according to this:

I think you’re right about the comparison, though. Seattle-Miami seems to me to be the greatest span between MLB cities.

I wish MLB would stop doing that or allowing that! Last year they had the Blue Jays playing a home game in hostile territory and now the Marlins?!?

If you have to move a game, move it somewhat reasonably near the home team actually place.

There’s good stadiums in Tampa, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Atlanta!

Now that I think about it, this would be a perfect opportunity to slip a series into Puerto Rico or Havana.

(and don’t say the stadium’s too small when it could fit the Marlins April-June attendance into a single weekend LOL)

That ‘J’ is me. (Somehow my autofill for this site got vacated.)

I have to admit that I would have guessed San Diego/Boston, but I guess Seattle is much further north than Boston.
