Lowe Arrested

Derek Lowe ran afoul of the law Thursday night:

A State Patrol spokesman told the AJC that Lowe was stopped around 10 p.m. on Peachtree Road at Rumson Road, and that the trooper “detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage” and gave Lowe a field sobriety test. Lowe refused to take a state-administered alcohol test, the spokesman said.

Lowe was also charged with reckless driving and failure to maintain lane.

He was taken to jail, and it’s not clear if he’s still there. Once again, these are rich men. If they are going out drinking, hire a driver. How many ballplayers need to be arrested before this message gets through?

I think this is a bigger problem than steroids…. after all, steroids only hurts oneself, but DWI can kill other people!! The media really should make a bigger deal out of this. Until they do, or until a player is arrested for manslaughter due to DWI, I doubt the message will ever get through to any of the players or the Union or the public.
