Upton, Upton and Away

Justin Upton missed the cycle by a triple Thursday night, but the biggest part of his game was his walk-off home run in the tenth inning that gave the Diamondbacks a 3-2 win over the Giants. Ian Kennedy pitched a great game, allowing one unearned run while walking one and striking out 10 in eight innings of work. J.J. Putz blew the same, however, giving up two singles and a sacrifice fly. That set up Upton’s walk-off blast.

This was the fourth walk-off RBI for Justin this season, the most in the majors. Carl Crawford is second with three. Upton is putting together another great year. Among rightfielders, only Jose Bautista ranks higher in WAR. Upton is getting support, too, as Miguel Montero, Stephen Drew and Chris Young are all posting WARs over 2.0.
