You Can’t Beat the Tigers, You Can Only Hope to Contain Them

The White Sox jump out to a 4-1 lead over the Tigers after one inning, but give up three runs on two homers in the ninth and fall to Detroit 6-5 in ten innings. Detroit wins their 12th game in a row as they continue to tear through Cleveland and Chicago. It’s probably a bit of a moral victory for the White Sox that they only lost by one run.

The Tigers magic number is down to one against the White Sox and three against Cleveland. Detroit’s 13 game lead is the largest in any division. If Cleveland falls to Texas tonight, Detroit could clinch the division tomorrow.

The Tigers win streak puts them within hailing distance of the Yankees for the best record in baseball.

I’ve never been reconciled to the Wild Card. I understand the logic, but I also realize that we would have had an exciting AL East divisional race under the old divisions.
