Fixing Beckham

Gordon Beckham talks about the fixes he’s making to his approach at the plate:

“I was too mechanical,” said Beckham, who used film of his 2009 season as a reference for success. “I’m back to where I’m just going to get (my hands) loaded on time and be smooth and easy and punish something. That’s always what I used to do: ‘I’m going to hit this ball as hard as I can.’ I got away from that because I wanted to get a hit. I didn’t want to drive the ball. I wanted to find some grass. That’s where I was.

“Talk is cheap. I know that. The way I feel is a lot better. I feel I’m back to where I need to be to be successful and be the guy who I was, that has a chip on his shoulder and goes out there busting his tail to do well for the team and play well at second.”

I wonder who influenced him into trying to place the ball? Hitting the ball hard leads to better results.

Well, we know it wasn’t Ozzie … I have Beckham in my keeper league – I would like to see him follow an old Yogi’ism; I can’t think & hit at the same time … ha ha
