I find it strange that the writer “pretends” to try to keep her identity secret, ’cause he gives out enough information for anybody to find out who she is….

    1. She lives in Manhattan
    2. She’s apparently done charity events connected with the Yankees for 6 years
    3. She’s had tickets for Yankee games, where the seats are in the family section. (easy to find video & compare all the faces)

With just a little bit of homework, anyone online can figure out who she is. I’d be surprised if some other legitimate journalists & paparazzi weren’t already workin’ on it.

To me, the most interesting part was his thoughts on Jorge last season. I wish the article said more about that kind of thing.

Devon » If Cashman is smart, he’ll do a Guliani and say, “Yes, I had an affair.” If he mean, he’ll give her name, address and phone number as well.

I’d also prefer not to read such gossip here, but I do see your quandary.

I have been known to skip some of the subjects that you choose to cover, and I assure you that it’s more a mild annoyance than a great hardship. Overall, I think you strike a great balance in deciding what to pass on to us.

Deadspin is one of the only journalistic sports news outlets. Are there any others?

Every paper has beat writers who write the same kind of stories and columnists who write the same kind of articles. Deadspin does actual investigations and files FOIAs. When is the last time another sports writer did that?

For some reason, they also have ridiculous juvenile “embarrassing hookup stories” and stuff like that, which kills me since people latch on to that and immediately dismiss the real journalism they do there.

It’s not their job to filter the news. They got a story on a sports figure and wrote about it. I’m guessing the NY Times and others either got the same offer and chose to pass, or didn’t put themselves in the position to get the story. Either way, Deadspin is a great news source. I don’t read all their stuff, some of it just doesn’t interest me, but a lot of their stuff is real news that isn’t covered anywhere else.

Its great gossip, but its scummy stuff and I feel less about myself for even reading it. Why does “Luke Wilson” think he needs to wear Brian Cashman’s pajamas or hold up his toothbrush as if in a hostage ransom photo? Deadspin is the quintessential example of vile muckracking “journalism.”
