Return of the King

Johan Santana made it all the way back:

Months of guarded optimism have led to an ideal outcome for the Mets. Johan Santana will start Opening Day, as the team has hoped since the moment last season ended.

Team officials came to the final decision Sunday morning, after Santana arrived at Mets camp and reported no abnormal soreness following an extended bullpen session the day before. With Santana etched in for Thursday’s opener against the Braves, the Mets aligned R.A. Dickey, Jon Niese, Mike Pelfrey and Dillon Gee behind him in the rotation, in that order. The club decided not to flip Pelfrey and Gee, despite the latter’s strong spring showing and the former’s poor one.

Mets fans should be singing:

That’s a pretty good rotation. We’ll see if the Mets offense can give them enough support.
