Even Ex Red Sox Have Thumb Problems

The Astros added Jed Lowrie to the disabled list with a sprained thumb.

The Astros had hoped that Lowrie would be ready for opening day on Friday against Colorado, but he wasn’t quite healthy enough to play.

He was injured March 28 and his time on the disabled list is backdated to March 29. He is eligible to come off the disabled list on April 13 and he says he is confident that he’ll be able to play then.

Brian Bixler returns to the majors to take Lowrie’s spot.
