Eckersley on Cabrera

Dennis Eckersley came down on the side of Miguel Cabrera for MVP on the Red Sox pre-game show on NESN. Amazingly, Dennis agrees that Mike Trout is the best all-around player in baseball, but asks how someone could spit on the triple crown.

So what happens if Miguel doesn’t win the triple crown. Trout could go 8 for 8 on the last two days of the season. Josh Hamilton could hit four home runs. If Miguel doesn’t win the triple crown, that argument goes out the window. Does anyone really believe that one home run or one point of batting average makes Miguel MVP or not? Isn’t the triple crown honor enough?

Someone should ask Dennis how people can spit on the the MVP award. After all, that’s for the best player in baseball. Awarding it to someone who isn’t that, is spitting on the award, and that makes it lose it’s legitimacy. Having an MVP himself, he might want to give that some thought before he goes around saying the MVP shouldn’t be given to the best player in baseball.

I get the appeal of the Batting Triple Crown & the history factor, but these people like Eck & Verducci are spouting out like hypocrites — saying one thing and doing another. They don’t even realize what they really think.
