Thumbs Down

The Padres suffered a major blow to their team:

Bad news on #Padres 3B Chase Headley. He has a small fracture in left thumb. Could miss a month.

As the best player on the Padres, losing Headley hurts the team both offensively and defensively. It also means they can’t trade him for a while if a team came up with a good offer. While the thumb may only take a month to heal, it may be a while longer for Chase to get his stroke back.

Via Gaslamp Ball, who is waiting for the next shoe to drop:

Chase Headley joins a bunch of Padres players who have decided not to show up for opening day in some creative fashion. Smart money is on Yonder Alonso to postpone starting the season with the team to participate as a stunt rider in the latest Cavalia show touring Southern California right now.

These are the times that try men’s souls.
