Error Loss

In measuring defense, errors are not the best way to understand if a team is good at preventing runs with the glove. Errors do happen, however, and today the White Sox made two in the bottom of the eighth, helping Kansas City score three runs and win the game 7-6. Once defensive statistic they keep at FanGraphs is Error Runs, and the White Sox are near the worst in the league in that category. After today, they may be the worst.

If you look at their overall UZR, however, the White Sox are pretty good. It’s tough to believe, however, when obvious poor defense leads to runs.
