Pissed Off Cashman

Alex Rodriguez just got to Brian Cashman:

Livid over Alex Rodriguez’s decision to tweet an update on his rehab process, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman had a message for the third baseman.

“You know what, when the Yankees want to announce something, [we will],” Cashman told ESPN New York. “Alex should just shut the f— up. That’s it. I’m going to call Alex now.”

Cashman explained that Dr. Kelly had no jurisdiction over Rodriguez’s rehab once the third baseman left New York to go to Tampa. Dr. Kelly had been approved by the team to perform the surgery and oversee Rodriguez’s recovery in New York.

That’s a little over the top by Cashman who earlier got on Kevin Long for his comments on Tex which also contradicted him. I am pretty sure a player has some say over his medical treatment and rehab and can talk about it. Cashman may be feeling the heat from management, who may be feeling the heat from fans and slumping ticket sales and ratings.

I don’t know the details on the Yankees insurance policy on Arod but I know they usually don’t pay out unless a player misses X amount of games. I kind of thought they may have delayed his surgery to make sure he missed enough games and his quick response to rehab may be a catch 22 for the Yankees . Arod may be giving the insurance company a weapon by going public if they chose to challenge the Yankees and the payout, and that may be a reason for Cashmans reaction as well.
