Jordan Taylor makes his major league debut for the Nationals in New York against Dillon Gee and the Mets. Jordan had an interesting last two season in the minors. In 2012 and 2013, his three true outcomes were very similar. At A ball in 2012 and AA in 2013 he posted K rates in the low sevens, walk rates under two and extremely low home runs rates. In 2012 that resulted in a 5.13 ERA as he allowed 71 hits in 54 1/3 innings. In 2013, he owns a 1.00 ERA, has allowed 68 hits in 90 1/3 innings, and comes to the majors with a 7-0 record. I suspect the Nationals defense is much better at AA than A ball. He should be a pitcher who allows the ball to be put in play, more Jordan Zimmermann than Stephen Strasburg. Washington’s defense will need to be on it’s toes. Gee pitches well against the Nationals, 5-1 with a 2.70 ERA, including one run in 12 2/3 innings this season.
Both the Padres and Marlins are playing better in June as Eric Stults faces Jacob Turner. Stults owns a 1.98 ERA this month, with just three walks in 36 1/3 innings. Turner allowed just one home run in his five starts, and just one hit in 24 at bats with runners in scoring position, helping him to a 1.97 ERA.
The Pirates go for their eighth straight win as they host the Brewers. Pittsburgh stands in sole possession of first place in the NL Central this morning as the Cardinals lost Friday night. The apply named Donovan Hand takes on Francisco Liriano. Hand has been sweet as cinnamon in his rookie season, rollin’ over hitters, holding them to a .246/.284/.319 slash line. He makes his second start of the year. After giving up 19 homers in 156 2/3 innings in 2012, Liriano allowed just two in 54 2/3 innings this year.
Enjoy!
