For the second game in a row, Yasiel Puig missed the cycle by a hit. Sunday, he went four for five, missing by a home run. Tuesday night he went 3 for 5, missing the feat by a triple. We almost had a cycle and a no-hitter on the same day!
Puig almost had as many hits as the Rockies, as Clayton Kershaw pitches a four-hit shutout in Colorado, walking none and striking out eight. He ended Michael Cuddyer‘s hitting streak at 27, so Mike did not get halfway to DiMaggio. The Dodgers won 8-0, and past San Francisco in the standings. The Giants are now in last place, and three game separate the five NL West teams. The Dodgers gained on all as the Padres fell to the Red Sox and the Mets pounded the Diamondbacks.
The Dodgers play two more games in this series in Colorado. Given the dimensions of the outfield, Puig has a very good chance to hit for the cycle in this series. Puig is batting .443, which means he can go 0 for 12 before he falls under .400.
