The Lone Star Garza

The Texas Rangers made a deal for Matt Garza:

The Chicago Tribune confirmed on Monday that the 29-year-old starter was dealt to the AL West club for a package which includes infielder Mike Olt, pitchers C.J. Edwards and Justin Grimm, along with a player to be named later. The deal is contingent upon all players involved passing physicals.

Except for this season, Olt is a high OBP, high slugging third baseman, although third base isn’t really a weak spot for the Cubs. Edwards is a high strikeout pitcher who has yet to allow a home run in over 160 minor league innings. Grimm is just 24, and should fill Garza’s shoes fine, especially with his low home run rate. The Cubs look like they did a good job gaining long-term talent in the deal.

For the Rangers, they get a quality starter to help an injured rotation.
