Bullpen Help

The Tigers get Jose Veras from the Astros. He’ll work in a set up role, or as a closer if Joaquin Benoit needs rest.

Here’s my favorite part, however:

The 32-year-old Veras was having the best season of his career with the Astros, who deserve credit for signing him as a free agent and then building his value so they could get something back for him. Veras went 19 for 22 in save situations with Houston, with a 1.000 WHIP that is the best of his career.

Houston gets Danry Vasquez, a 19 year-old outfielder in his third year in the minors. His batting stats are not that impressive yet, but he did improve this season, drawing more walks while keeping his batting average at about the same level. Nice job by Houston turning an old pitcher into a young prospect.
