Blogging
I am healing from my back injury, but the drugs are making me a bit tired, and with other things going on I have not been writing as much as I would like. I hope to return to normal soon.
Taking a Break
I suffered an injury that makes it difficult to set in front of the computer, so I’m going to use the All-Star break to take some time off as well. With luck, I’ll be better soon, so enjoy tonight’s contest.
Thank You
Baseball Musings set a record for visitors in a month with 123,562 of you clicking on the site in June. Thank you so much for the support! It seems a lot of people come for the hit streak data, but I hope you enjoy the other features as well.
If you would like to support the site monetarily, the donation page is here.
Pledge Drive Final
The Baseball Musings Pledge Drive is over. Thank you to all who donated! The drive brought in $245, and there are usually a few late donations. While the drive is over, the donation links stay up, so feel free to donate any time.
Thanks once again to everyone who reads and enjoys this labor of love.

Baseball Musings Pledge Drive
Baseball Musings came online in March, 2002, and I’d like to thank the readers once again for making this site a labor of love. Your comments, jokes, and criticism help make this a fine forum for discussing our pastime. Baseball Musings remains one of the few independent voices from the early days of baseball blogging.
Since 2005, readers supported the site with donations during the pledge drive. I hope you will consider helping out with the costs of the site.
Donations can be made via PayPal, Square Cash, or Venmo. Venmo needs to be used through the mobile app, and my name is David-Pinto-82. Unfortunately, other donations providers have gone out of business or charge too much money in fees. If you do not wish to use one of the above providers but still wish to donate, please contact me and I’ll provide an address for a check. (I recently moved, so the old address won’t work.) My email is pinto@baseballmusings.com.
The main cost of running the site is the data for the Day by Day Database. The DBD is a different research tool, given you date driven data from the start. Teams and fantasy players use it on a daily basis. It provides data for the daily Beat the Streak Picks. It provides data for the Musings Marcels and the Opposition batting version of that projection system. I have a number of readers who reported fantasy success using that data. In recent years, database expanded to include all post-season batter and pitcher game lines back to 1920. We now can see the old newspaper style of league leaders every day, and for every day for over 100 years.
Note that in 2020, Baseball Musings removed most advertising from the site. This was part of a redesign that made the posts easier to read and presented an uncluttered look to patrons. It also makes your donations more important.
Is this worth a five dollar donation? If every one who visited the site today donated that amount, the drive would be finished by this evening.
Larger donations earn you a premium. For a donation of $50, you will be able to dedicate a post. The dedication should be in good taste and may contain a hyperlink. For a contribution of $500, you can join Jack Spellman as a Patron on the side bar for two years, including a hyperlink.
Thank you for your support!
P.S. If you want to support independent blogging, and discussions that take more than 280 characters, consider a donation to Baseball Musings today!
Thank You
For some reason, the number of visitors to Baseball Musings is way up this season. Thanks to everyone who reads, and I hope you continue to enjoy the site!

Happy Thanksgiving!
As always, I am thankful for the support from all of you who read and enjoy Baseball Musings. It continues to be a labor of love. This year, I am especially thankful to have a grandchild on the way!
Here is wishing you a wonderful day with your friends and family.
Almost Back
We’re very close to back in business. I can post here now. There is one database issue we need to solve before I can update the last two days of post-season stats. I lost a few posts, but congratulations to the Padres on advancing to the NLCS, and I tonight’s matchup is really tough to call. Bullpen games can be great, but if one of your relievers has a back game, the other side can score quickly.
I want to thank the crew at Hosting Matters for the diligent work in pulling things back together.
Site Problems
I apologize for site problems today. We have been working on them all day, and things are starting to work. Still trying to get the Day by Day Database back up.
RSS Problems
It would appear that Feed Burner is no longer updating my RSS feed. If you use an RSS reader, you should change the feed to https://www.baseballmusings.com/?feed=rss2.
Sorry for any problems this might have caused.

Twenty Years of Baseball Musings
Today marks the twentieth anniversary of Baseball Musings. I’d like to thank all the readers, commenters, linkers, and patrons who made these twenty years of writing a labor of love.
The site grew into more than just a blog over the years. The Day by Day Database offers stats that are totally date driven. Teams and fantasy players use it on a daily basis. It provides data for the daily Beat the Streak Picks. It provides data for the Musings Marcels and the Opposition batting version of that projection system. I have a number of readers who reported fantasy success using that data. Newspaper style of league leaders update every day, and for every day in the last 100 years.
In the past the site ran a pledge drive during March, but this year I’m only reaching out on this anniversary date. If you found this site fun or useful during the years, please consider a small tip.
Larger donations earn you a premium. For a donation of $50, you will be able to dedicate a post. The dedication should be in good taste and may contain a hyperlink. For a contribution of $500, you can join Jack Spellman as a Patron on the side bar for two years, including a hyperlink.

Fleeting Bloggers
Jon Weisman of Dodger Thoughts sent this tweet my way:
The article holds up very well, and this still holds true for me:
In the end, what motivates baseball bloggers to do even the flawed work they do?
“I just enjoy commenting on baseball,” Pinto said. “It’s just wonderful to have a voice. I had many motivations for starting the blog … but the main motivation was that I had hosted Baseball Tonight Online for a year, and liked being able to get my opinions out, rather than working to support other people’s opinions. I think that will always be the motivating factor behind the blog.”
Baseball Toaster
Baseball Toaster turned out to be one of the fleeting blogs, which I miss very much. Luckily, one of my favorite blog posts of all time still remains.
Happy New Year
As 2022 begins, here’s wishing for a quick and fair resolution to the labor dispute. I also hope your favorite team wins the World Series!
I’m also looking forward to celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the start of Baseball Musings in March.
Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving to all the readers of Baseball Musings. You make twenty year labor of love possible. My gratitude for all your comments and support of the seasons, and I hope well into the future!
