Games o’ the Day

The Braves and Cardinals start the day with Aaron Harang facing Shelby Miller. Harang made eight starts this season, six of them qualifying as quality. Fredi Gonzalez is not pushing the veteran, holding him to six innings most of the time. Harang is not getting the chance to blow up in a game. Miller may be the luckiest pitcher in baseball, as he carries a 3.22 ERA into the game despite a 5.88 FIP and a 4.89 xFIP. He’s holding opponents to a 2 for 34 with runners in scoring position, with only three RBI produced in those opportunities.

Oakland sends Scott Kazmir against the team that revived his career as Scott faces the Indians and Josh Tomlin. Kazmir has yet to allow a home run on the road this year although seven of his nine walks came away from Oakland. Tomlin got a late start, but in 12 2/3 innings so far this season, he walked just one batter.

Mark Buehrle tries to become the majors first eight-game winner as the Blue Jays take on the Rangers and Robbie Ross, Jr. With his 7-1 record this year, Mark stands 50 games above .500 for his career, 193-143, a .574 winning percentage. We should see him crack the 200 win barrier soon. He reliably wins 13 games a year, so it would take quite a streak to get him to 300 wins. He pitches as a 35-year-old this season. Ross shows good control, but batters take advantage of his pitches in the strike zone for a .311 BA.

Finally, Clayton Kershaw battles Chase Anderson as the Dodgers play in Arizona. Kershaw becomes even more amazing as time passes. So far this season, he walked one and struck out 25 in 20 2/3 innings. Anderson makes his second big league start and appearance, after pitching well against the White Sox in his debut. He pitched extremely well in the minors and comes to the majors in his full prime.

Enjoy!

If he pitched in a really long extra-inning game, one that looked like it would never end, would our Robbie Ross be ouroborus?
