Peter Principle

Peter Bourjos, one of the worst hitters on the Cardinals, rises to the occasion with a walk-off single as the Cardinals beat the Pirates 1-0 for a three-game sweep. Bourjos went 2 for 3 in the game to raise his batting average to .239.

The Cardinals win a very close series, all three games decided by two runs or less. Pittsburgh is now five games behind St. Louis in the NL Central, and 2 1/2 games behind Milwaukee in the NL Wild Card race, pending the outcome of the Brewers game against the Cubs.
