Keuchel Dominates

Dallas Keuchel continued to make his Cy Young case as he pitched a shutout against the Yankees Thrusday night. The Yankees are the second highest scoring team in the American League. The match-up did favor Keuchel based on home versus road splits, however. New York scores 5.8 runs per game at home, just 3.9 runs per game at home. With the shutout on Thursday, Keuchel holds a 1.39 ERA at home, 3.14 on the road. Minute Maid Park favors pitchers slightly this season, but most of the team’s better home ERA is a result of Keuchel’s pitching. He has yet to allow a home run in 64 innings at home, the best rate in the majors. Keuchel also leads the majors in complete games since the start of 2014.

The Astros beat the Yankees 4-0.

That was my first look at Keuchel. He reminded me of Ojeda at his absolute best in 1986, although with a slightly better fastball.

Tom Andersen » Watching him warm up last night, I was impresses with how effortlessly he delivered the ball. He did not seem to be straining, but the ball was flying out of his hand. Probably why he can go so deep in games, a very efficient delivery.
