Max Scherzer pitches a perfect first inning as the Nationals play in Philadelphia. The first two batters for the Phillies went easily, with a weak grounder to first and a strikeout. Maikel Franco then hit a hard line drive, but right at third baseman Danny Espinosa. Espinosa is at third because Aaron Harang hit Yunel Escobar on the top of the left hand with a pitch in the first inning. It sounded like Esobar broke something, but he stayed in the game until the Nationals took the field. Washington leads Philadelphia 1-0.
