Debutiversary

Mike Trout celebrated the fourth anniversary of his major league debut with a two-home run game in Colorado as the Angles beat the Rockies 3-2. The two shots give Trout 24 on the season, two behind his teammate Albert Pujols in the AL race. They’re not quite Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris yet, but with a good second half the possibility of combining for 90 home runs is not out of the question.

Trout hit 122 home runs since his debut, fifth in the majors since that date. Pujols is right behind him with 121. He’s one of just 18 players to hit 100 or more in that time frame. Trout is now 16% of the way to the home run record, and he won’t play in his prime until 2017. If he can come out of his age 29 season with 450 home runs, he will have a read shot at Barry Bonds.

He might even get helped by an uptick in offense. Offense tends to cycle up and down. In six years, the current run drought might be over, and an offensive wave might carry Trout through his 30s.

This is his age 23 season; he’s at 122, so 145 at season’s end sounds reasonable.
But to have 450 at end of season 29, Trout would
have to average over 50 hr/season for 6 years-seems unlikely.
400 would be a steep climb, but if anybody can do it, Trout can.
