Games of the Day

See Thrusday’s games of the day for my thoughts on the Blue Jays at the Yankees, with the same matchup of David Price and Luis Severino.

The Red Sox are playing better under Torey Lovullo, and they send Wade Miley against the Rays and Chris Archer. For the Rays, every game is a must win if they are going to make the playoffs. Miley owns a 1.93 ERA against the Rays this season, giving up just 13 hits in 18 2/3 innings, but seven walks. Tampa Bay only hit .095 against him with men on base. Archer blows away batters with 228 strikeouts in 187 1/3 innings. He’s yet to beat Boston this year, despite 19 K in 11 2/3 innings. He allowed 12 hits, three of them home runs.

The Astros travel to Anaheim to take on the Angels with Dallas Keuchel battling Jered Weaver. The Angels need a sweep of this series to have a shot at the AL West title. The Cy Young award is Keuchel’s to lose. He has not pitched as well on the road, however, 4-6 with a 3.35 ERA. Nine of his 13 home runs allowed came in road games. At 4.78, Weaver is posting the highest single season ERA of his career. He’s become a pitch to contact pitcher. His .272 BABIP is in line with his career, but he’s giving the opposition a lot more opportunities to get hits with his lower strikeout rate.

Enjoy!
