Eddie Milner died on Monday, Nov. 2nd:
Milner was drafted by the Reds in the 21st round of the 1976 amateur draft. He made his debut with the team at age 25 on Sept. 2, 1980.
In 1983, Milner hit .261 with a single-season best 131 hits, and led the Reds with 41 stolen bases (also a single-season best for Milner).
My thoughts go out to his family and friends.
Milner’s 1983 seasons saw him post a .350 OBP, and his .333 career OBP was not bad for the day. He was a left-handed platoon hitter, doing much better against right-handed pitchers. He spent most of his time as a table setter, but generated some power the few times he batted fifth or sixth.
At only 60 years old, he left us way too young.
I’ll always remember Eddie Milner as the guy who smacked a double to lead off a game, which turned out to be the reason Jerry Reuss didn’t get a perfect game that day.
Yes, too young.
