Trumbo Trade

The Orioles and Mariners made a deal Tuesday night, Seattle sending Mark Trumbo to the Orioles for backup catcher Steve Clevenger. Trumbo peaked early, with 2+ rWAR seasons age 25-27, but a total of 0.5 the last three years. Clevenger is a catcher who can’t hit lefties, coming off his best offensive year. Both are out machines. Trumbo, however, moves to a much better park for his main strength, hitting for power. I won’t be surprised to see him have a good year with the long ball. It’s another example of Dan Duquette concentrating on what a player can do, and how that strength fits with his team.

I am a former teammate of Steve Clevenger and I think when he gets a chance to hit everyday, he could add value. Being behind Matt Wieters for as long as he was did not help him get a ton of ABs but enough with Wieters injury history. Great job Steve and good luck.
