Two Thumbs Down

Yadier Molina needed a second thumb surgery:

Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina had his second left thumb ligament surgery of the offseason on Tuesday, a setback that came after an initial surgery did not take.

Molina is expected to sit out much of spring training, but is expected to be ready for opening day, Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak confirmed to the Post-Dispatch.

I would be worried right now. If the first surgery didn’t take, I wonder why the second would be more successful?

The Cardinals off-season is not going well. They lost their free-agent targets, and the Cubs have gained strength. Molina is an important part of the team, both offensively and defensively. We’ll see how the Cardinals respond, and if they continue to have the minor league depth to weather injuries.

Sorry to hear about Yadi. As a Cubs fan I really dislike him (in a purely fan-like respectful way). But I’m still scared of the Cards. Seems no matter how many injuries they have, they keep winning. They’re like the Terminators of MLB. At the same time, if they totally collapse it would make a Cubs championship seem just a teeny bit less sweet. But just a teeny bit. So, I hope Yadi heals up, the Cards do well, and the Cubs beat them like a drum.
