Mark Trumbo recorded his third multi-HR game of the season Wednesday afternoon as the Orioles pounded the Twins 9-2. Trumbo could always hit for power, but this year he is hitting for average as well with a .323/.372/.630 line after today’s game. His BABIP is way up, .385 coming into today versus .294 for his career. He’s getting more balls in the air, with higher line drive and fly ball rates, and a much lower ground ball rate. It makes me wonder if a hitting coach got him to get a bit more upper cut to his swing, or if it was a decision he made given his move to Camden Yards. He’s stinging the ball right now, and the Orioles are enjoying his power.
Of course, this early in the season one can’t rule out simply a run of good luck.
