Tyler Naquin hit a two-run homer that put the Indians on top of the Mariners and helped Cleveland to a 5-3 victory. Naquin is now hitting .325/.371/.554 on the season. At seasonal age 25, Naquin is an old rookie. Throughout the minor leagues, he did a great job of getting on base, but didn’t supply much power. The Indians use the left-handed batter mostly against right-handed pitching, and he has shown some power in the show. Nine of his 27 hits have left gone for extra bases.

He’s only posted 89 plate appearances however, and the disturbing part of that is his strikeout rate. He K’d 29 times so far. When he puts the ball in play, he tends to get a hit, hence his high batting average. This sometimes happens with older rookies. They come to the majors in their prime, the league doesn’t adjust fast enough, and they hit well for a while. The Indians will be happy to ride the Naquin wave as long as it lasts.

Robinson Cano continues his torrid power, hitting two more home runs in the game to bring his season total to 18. The most he ever hit in a season is 33.
