Aaron Nola and Tanner Roark get the day started at noon as the Phillies take on the Nationals. Nola has now matched his innings from last year’s rookie campaign with 12 fewer hits allowed, four fewer walks and home runs, and 17 more strikeouts. Roark allowed just five home runs in 73 innings.
Jake Arrieta goes for his 10th win as he leads the Cubs against Atlanta and Matt Wisler. Arrieta is still undefeated on the road, 6-0 this season with a 1.71 ERA. Wisler has yet to win at home, 0-4 with a 4.12 ERA.
The Tigers send Justin Verlander against the Yankees and Masahiro Tanaka. Verlander’s numbers are good overall, but it looks like he’s staying in the game too long, as his opposition hitting numbers go up in the seventh inning. Tanaka is Mr. No Decision this year, 3-1 in 12 starts. He is helping, however, as the Yankees are 8-4 in those games.
Finally, Jose Fernandez takes on the supreme like being* as Arizona sends Zack Godley against Miami in his 2016 debut. Fernandez goes for his 10th win, having allowed just four home runs in 74 2/3 innings. Chase Field will test that stat. Godley impressed in his brief 2015 stint, striking out 34 batters in 36 2/3 innings. He was a bit wild, however. He was still wild in AAA this season.
