Salazar Out for the Regular Season

Danny Salazar will miss at least the rest of the regular season:

Cleveland Indians right-hander Danny Salazar will be sidelined for three to four weeks with a forearm injury.

Salazar had an MRI on Monday in Cleveland and was examined by Dr. Mark Schickendantz, the Indians’ head team physician. He was diagnosed with a mild strain to his flexor musculature.

The AL Central-leading Indians say Salazar will get a platelet-rich plasma injection on Tuesday and stop throwing for approximately 10 days. The timeline provided by the team indicates he could return for the playoffs, but any setback could shelve Salazar for the year.

There is a large falloff between Salazar and those pitchers who filled in as the fifth starter. The good news is that Cleveland has a decent lead in the division, and that teams can often get by with three starters in the playoffs.
