Games of the Day

Robbie Ray faces Gio Gonzalez as the Diamondbacks continue their series in Washington. Ray in giving up walks and home runs, but his high strikeout rate prevents runners from advancing on balls in play. The LHP Gonzalez pitched very effectively against RHB this season, holding them to a .231/.290/.363 slash line.

Carlos Carrasco leads the Indians against the Tigers and Matt Boyd. Carrasco is a high strikeout, low walk pitcher, so it’s not that surprising that all eight runs he allowed came on his five home runs allowed. Boyd faced the Indians twice in his career, once in a long relief role and earlier this year as a starter. He allowed just one run despite giving up nine hits and five walks in 10 2/3 innings.

Finally, Oakland sends Kendall Graveman against the Twins and Hector Santiago. In his brief time on the road this season, Graveman pitched great. He walked one and stuck out nine in 13 innings for a 2.08 ERA. Santiago does his best work at home this year, with three walks and 16 strikeouts in 18 1/3 innings, good for a 1.96 ERA.

Enjoy!
