Cashing In

I like the way Kevin Cash reacted to the Rays win over the Red Sox on Thursday:

“I’d say it’s a pretty big message,” manager Kevin Cash said. “These guys, they came off a frustrating loss [Wednesday against the Chicago Cubs] and they didn’t let it linger. They knew they had to be at their best on the mound and at the plate against Chris Sale. They did that, and it’s put us in a position to build off of it now.”

That’s a nice bit of confidence building. The Rays got another great start from rookie Jake Faria, and despite striking out 12 times, they managed two home runs against Sale, getting at his relative weakness. If they can beat the Red Sox with Sale on the mound, they can beat anybody. It’s a great message to relay to a team.
