Games of the Day

The Red Sox try to gain back a game on the Rays as Drew Pomeranz takes on Jake Odorizzi. Pomeranz owns a road ERA over a run lower than his home numbers, despite pitching somewhat better in Fenway in terms of strikeouts. The hits against him at home are longer, with a .172 isolated power allowed at home, .131 on the road. Odorizzi goes much deeper in home games, pitching 50 innings in eight Tropicana Field starts, 29 1/3 innings in seven road starts.

Jacob deGrom of the Mets faces Carlos Martinez of the Cardinals. deGrom is doing an excellent job of keeping batters off base, allowing a .297 OBP. On top of that, he allows just a .197 BA with men in scoring position. He has walked 16 batters in that situation for a .353 OBP, but it would appear that he successfully pitches around trouble. Martinez is also excellent with runners in scoring position, posting a .156 BA, with an excellent .256 OBP allowed.

Finally, the Athletics send Sean Manaea to the mound against the Mariners and James Paxton. Manaea shows no sign of a sophomore slump. He improved his strikeout and home run rates, with the trade-off of a higher walk rate. That combined to bring his ERA down 0.1 runs. Paxton pitches well, but has trouble staying healthy. He makes his fourteenth start of the season tonight, and this will be just the second year he passed 13 starts.

Enjoy!
