Games of the Day

The Brewers keep mashing the ball, and the Yankees keep getting poor relief work as the two teams continue their pre-All Star series. Brent Suter takes on Luis Severino. Suter made a successful transition from the bullpen to the rotation. He struck out 10 and walked five in 10 1/3 innings as a reliever, struck out ten and walked two in 10 2/3 innings as a starter. Severino walked a batter about every three innings last season. This year it’s down to one about every four innings, and he accomplished that while increasing his strikeout rate. That combination helped drop his ERA over two runs.

Houston continues to be the super team of the American League, nine games ahead of the Red Sox for best record. They send Mike Fiers against Marcus Stroman and the Blue Jays on Saturday. Fiers takes advantage of the Houston’s league best offense with a 4-0 record on the road despite a 4.83 ERA and 11 home runs allowed in 41 innings. Stroman owns a 2.87 ERA at home where he walked just 11 batters in 59 2/3 innings.
