Games of the Day

The Nationals go for a sweep of the Reds in an unusual Monday lunchtime game. Stephen Strasburg takes on Scott Feldman. Strasburg pitches very well on the road this season, 6-1 with a 2.61 ERA. He’s allowed just three of his 11 home runs away from home. Feldman pitches better at home, allowing hitters a .215/.288/.379 slash line.

If Toronto wants to get back in the AL East race, sweeping a four-game series at Boston would help. Marcus Stroman faces Eduardo Rodriguez in game one. Stroman pitched his best with runners in scoring position this season, allowing a .220/.304/.378 slash line. Rodriguez returns to the mound after hurting his knee in the bullpen in early June. He had struck out 65 batters in 61 innings before the injury, but allowed nine home runs.

Finally, the Mariners at the Astros features the secret AL batting race between Jean Segura and Jose Altuve. Altuve comes into the game leading the AL in batting average at .350, Segura right behind at .348. Segura does not yet have enough plate appearances to qualify for the leader board due to injuries. Segura has 286 PA, and needs 3.1 PA per game to qualify. The Mariners played 93 games, so the qualifying level is 288.3. He probably needs a couple of more games to qualify.

Enjoy!
