We will see if the Colorado Rockies can adjust to Corey Kluber‘s breaking ball as German Marquez visits the Indians. Marquez is no slouch with the strikeouts, collecting 100 Ks in 103 inning with just 33 walks.

Luis Perdomo faces Sal Romano in the Padres game against the Reds. Perdomo has four hits this season, a double and three triples. We were trying to figure out the record for triples by someone who was primarily a pitcher. Since 1900, considered one start of the modern era, Harry Howell hit 11 triples, splitting time as a second baseman and a pitcher. He did pitch 199 innings, but played a few more innings at second base. In 1918, Babe Ruth hit 11 triples. He played much more as an outfielder that year. In 1901, Kid Nichols hit seven triples, and was indeed primarily a pitcher, as was Al Orth in 1903. Walter Johnson was the last to hit 6 triples, in 1913. Erskine Mayer was the last to hit five triples, in 1918, and Robin Roberts was the last to hit 4, in 1955. Let’s go, Perdomo!

The Rays have a chance to gain on the Red Sox as Boston visits Tampa Bay. Chris Sale faces rookie Austin Pruitt. Sale makes his fourth start against the Rays this season, 2-1 with a 3.43 ERA. That seems a bit high since he struck out 36 Rays in 21 innings. He allowed just 12 hits, but four of them were home runs. Pruitt owns a 5.65 ERA, but some bad luck may have been involved as he allowed a .362 BABIP, and his FIP ERAs are much lower.

Finally, the Diamondbacks try to dent the Dodgers as Kenta Maeda visit Zack Godley. Three of Maeda’s four losses came on the road this season, where his ERA stands at 4.74. He’s allowed eight of his 12 home runs away. Godley holds opponents to an impressive .196/.268/.302 slash line. He turns batters into pitchers who can hit a little.
