Giancarlo Stanton went deep Saturday night to reach the magical 54 home run plateau. That ties him with seven other players for 19th on the single season home run list. Of the players who hit at least 50 home runs, it’s the most frequent finishing point. With 44 season of players hitting at least 50 home runs, no one ever ended the year with 55. Stanton has enough time to blow by 55 as well. No one has even ended the season with 62 HR either (the only missing numbers between 54 and 66). This spreadsheet shows Stanton with a .177 probability of reaching at least 62 HR this year. He needs to get to 58 for a top ten finish.
