Wilmer Flores won the game against the Brewers as the Mets first baseman hit a walk-off solo home run in the ninth. That made the final score 3-2.
Flores batted fifth, which given his poor start to the season might seem inappropriate. If you look at Flores longer term, since the start of the 2016 season, what stands out is his power. He doesn’t do a great job of getting on base, but his extra base hits serve the purpose of driving in runners who reached ahead of him. His talent works better at the end of an offensive sequence than at the beginning, and the fifth slot is a good place for that. With today’s 1 for 4 with a walk, Flores is hitting .200/.286/.520. He’s all about the power.
