In today’s Beat the Streak post, the Log5 method rated Mallex Smith against Martin Perez as the match-up that would produce the highest hit average. What the Log5 method didn’t know was that Smith rarely plays against left-handers. The Rays batted Smith ninth this evening, and he’s two for two against Martin Perez. Log5 turned out in this case to make a nice prediction.
Maybe if Smith saw lefties more often he’d hit better against them.
The Rays lead the Rangers 6-0 in the top of the fourth inning.
Update: Smith is now 4 for 4, with Tampa Bay leading 8-4 in the top of the 8th inning.
