Good News, Bad News in Seattle

Kenji Johjima threw out Chone Figgins yesterday. Figgins was the first good base stealer to make an attempt against the new catcher:

Not that it made a major difference in the game, which the Angels won 6-3. But it may be, in miniature, like Ichiro Suzuki’s play in April 2001 when he threw out Oakland’s Terrence Long at third base from right field.
Runners around the American League got the word that it was unwise to test Ichiro’s arm. It’s probable that word of Johjima’s victory over Figgins will make the circuit, too.

On the other side of the coin, Adrian Beltre’s great World Baseball Classic performance may be overshadowed by an injury:

In the past two games, Beltre has been removed early. The Mariners got a call from the Dominicans coaching staff Sunday night informing them Beltre is suffering from a pulled right hip flexor.
The fact Beltre is able to play is an indication the injury may not be serious. Mariners trainer Rick Griffin is being updated on Beltre’s condition.

A healthy and productive Beltre is a key to a successful Mariners season.

Another player injury is reported by NY Newsday today,
Johnny Damon. The powers that be don’t want you to
know about injuries. Just keep raking in the dough.
