Below the Belt

Brandon Belt needed emergency surgery after Friday’s game:

Brandon Belt had surgery to have appendix removed, the Giants annnounced Saturday morning.

Belt, the Giants’ leader in batting average (.309), home runs (11) and RBIs (31), left Friday night’s 4-0 win over the Philadelphia Phillies after complaining of abdominal pain.

The Giants reported that Belt was resting comfortably in the hospital will be released Saturday afternoon. Belt was placed on the 10-day disabled list, with the Giants reinstating second baseman Alen Hanson (hamstring) following a rehab assignment with the Single-A San Jose Giants.

At the moment, we don’t know the extent of the surgery. If it was a laparoscopic procedure, he might be out less than two weeks. Here’s wishing Belt a quick recovery. The Giants offense likely takes a hit without him.
