The New Big Papi

The Brewers could not find a spot for Domingo Santana, and now he is crushing the ball for the Mariners. Santana collected three hits and four RBI Monday as the Mariners crushed the Royals 13-5. That puts Santana at .340/.431/.640 for the season, with seven of his 17 hits going for extra bases. He’s in his age 26 season, so the Mariners acquired him at the top of his game.

So will this go down as a poorly thought out move for the Brewers? The Twins let David Ortiz go without a trade, because they didn’t realize how to utilize him properly. Like Ortiz, Santana was clearly a good hitter. Ben Gamel is doing nothing for the Brewers, Noah Zavolas may be a very good relief pitcher at some point. Still if Santana keeps ranking like this, the Brewers will regret the trade.

The Brewers gave Santana a chance to play in 2017 and he hit very well. Now the Mariners are giving him that same chance, and he’s responding again. I’m excited to see how this plays out.
