Games of the Day

The Yankees and Red Sox meet in the Bronx with Chris Sale and J.A. Happ taking the mound. Home runs hurt Sale’s ERA this season. In 2018 he allowed 11 dingers in 158 innings. So far in 2019, he allowed 10 home runs in 62 1/3 innings. Happ is even worse, with 14 HR allowed in 58 1/3 innings. This is setting up to be a slugfest.

Two somewhat surprising teams square off in Florida as the Twins visit the Rays. Jose Berrios takes on Charlie Morton. Berrios’s strikeout rate is down a bit from 2018, but he cut his walk rate in half. Morton stands 5-0 in 11 starts, as the Rays don’t allow him to get in trouble. He only pitched past six innings once this season. The Rays are not pulling him against the top of the of the lineup the third time through the order, but he seldom faces more than 23 batters.
