Weekly Look at Offense

Offense remains high in 2019 as compared to 2018. Through nine full weeks in each season, 2019 leads with 9.41 runs per game versus 8.77 runs per game in 2018. As in prior weeks, an increase in home runs of 0.4 per game is the difference. Walks remain even for the two years, and other hits remain down 0.2 per game. Strikeouts are up from 17.2 per game to 17.5 per game.

Batters are striking out a little less, putting the ball in play more, and collecting about a hit more per game. On a week by week basis, 2019 produced four of the highest scoring week in the last five seasons out of the first nine weeks of the year.
